The moon is our neighbor

The distance to it at the nearest point to the Earth is 356 410 km. The maximum distance of the Moon from Earth is 406 697 km. Such precise measurements were obtained by means of a laser beam , reflected by mirrors, left on the surface of the moon by cosmonauts from the station "Apollo" and Soviet aircrafts. The distance was measured according to the time required by the beam to reach the Moon and go back.
