What is a young moon?

During the month, we observe how the lunar disk in the sky changes. This is due to the fact that the sun lit by the Moon is visible from the Earth at different angles. In the young Moon - the Moon is located between the Earth and the Sun so that we see only the narrow crescent edges of its illuminated surface. During the first two weeks of the month its width widens to full, when the entire illuminated surface of the Moon is visible from the Earth. Within the next two weeks, the illuminated sector of the Moon decreases until there remains only a splinter - the old Moon.
