How to distinguish crocodiles from the alligator?

Crocodile teeth stick out even from the closed mouth. Crocodiles and alligators have much in common, for example, long trunk, covered with thick scales, elongated jaws with numerous sharp teeth. But with closed jaws noticeable significant difference between crocodiles and alligators. In the alligators, the fourth pair of teeth of the mandible is immersed in the deepening of the upper jaw, and in crocodiles, these teeth are visible from the outside of the upper jaw.
