Why did the Greeks build so many temples?

The Greeks believed that every god and goddess they worshiped should be a home where their spirit lives. Therefore they erected magnificent temples for their gods, decorating them with majestic statues. Every god was endowed with special power, and all who came to the temple prayed for his intercession. The main god of the ancient Greeks was the Zeus Thunder, Apec - is the god of war, and Aphrodite - the goddess of love.
